Chez Hwang

Hi everyone!

It's been a while, I miss blogging! This semester is my busiest one so far. Forgive me for not being able to blog weekly as I planned..

This post is about the all you can eat Korean BBQ at Chez Hwang. As I said, I love Chez Hwang's bulgogi and kalbi. The beef is absolutely sweet and tender. I have been waiting for a long time, and finally, yesterday night, I went to the restaurant with my boyfriend and 4 other friends to eat a lot of their Korean BBQ.

At Chez Hwang, the all you can eat BBQ is only for tables of at least 6 people. This is why it took me a while to enjoy the all you can eat... Since my friends and I are in our reading week, we could finally gather together again and simply relax and eat some succulent food.

The all you can eat menu does not offer a big variety. We could choose only bulgogi (marinated beef), pork and thinly cut beef brisket. The spicy chicken, which I never tried, and the yummy kalbi (ribs) are not part of the menu for all you can eat.
A miso soup is included in the meal, and like previously mentioned, it is so so and a little too salty. My friends agreed with me, but since we don't pay for it, we don't complain. A basket of lettuce is given too (to wrap the meat), but to refill it, we have to pay 3$, so we were contented with our bowl of rice d=

Starting from left: pork, beef brisket.
As you can see, the meat is not marinated, so you need to dip in their red paste sauce that resembles a little to miso.
The famous tender and sweet bulgogi. We were 6 and we probably ordered 4 plates of this (and we could have had more). It was magically flavourful!

I noticed that there is always only 1 waiter/waitress in the restaurant. So service can be slow sometimes. I suggest you go with the idea to spend time to slowly eat and chat with your friends. Last night was a very relaxing and fun night. Food was really amazing! If you love Korean BBQ, find a few friends to enjoy Chez Hwang's all you can eat bulgogi. My friends and I found that the marinated beef was really the only food we needed in the menu d=

Winter food @Chez Hwang

Yesterday, I went out to have a supper with my boyfriend at Chez Hwang. Last time we went there, we saw some people have hot pot and it looked delicious! So this time, instead of ordering the Korean BBQ, we opted for the hot pot.

This is the appetizer we had. It is Korean sausage with vegetables.
I believe they used some chili paste, as it is a very common ingredient employed in Korean cuisine, and I could taste a slight spiciness. The sausage, surprisingly, had a not very firm texture. There was jap chae, the potato noodle, and some vegetables inside. I couldn't tell what meat they put, but overall, you taste and see mainly the transparent noodles. I am not sure if I really liked it, but it was still a good new try.
Both my boyfriend and I found the vegetables succulent. The green vegetables you see were my favourite! Very tasty and crunchy!
Very colourful dish, isn't it?
The hot pot we chose was Bulgogi (very tasty marinated beef) and Octopus hot pot. It is a pot for 2, priced 29.99$. It came like this, with all the food put in already.
As I mentioned in my previous posts, Chez Hwang really is no.1 in Korean BBQ in Montreal. Their bulgogi is the b-e-s-t! Even when the beef is cooked in a soup, it is delicious! The octopus, on the other hand, was a little chewy, but it was acceptable.
You find all this in the hot pot: beef, octopus, cabbage, green onions, cucumber, the green vegetable I like, firm tofu, and my favourite udon =)
A drawback is that since all the food are put in the pot at once, some veggies will be overcooked and I don't like to eat mushy veggies..Overall, it was still a great experience having hot pot at Chez Hwang. Will I order it a second time? The bulgogi in the soup really reminded me of their wonderful BBQ.....so I think I will still go for their Korean BBQ next time I go =)

Best Korean BBQ in Montreal!

Hello everybody!!
Sorry again! I have stopped blogging for a while. I have been overwhelming with the many jobs I have.. but here I am!

Today, I present to you, the best Korean BBQ in Montreal (in my opinion). The name of the restaurant is Chez Hwang. Hwang is a family name. In French, Chez Hwang means at Hwang's house. The restaurant is nothing fancy, but the food is very authentic. Delicious!

The following is an authentic Korean entree. Spicy rice cake. This one is served with seafood. At Chez Hwang, you find those thick potato noodles (called japchae, it is a famous Korean ingredient) in this plat. This day, I brought a friend who does not love spicy dishes. We still ordered the spicy rice cake and she liked it!
This is the famous jap chae, Korean thick noodles.
This is the yummy rice cake. I love the texture! Now comes the star of the restaurant, Korean BBQ! Like many other Korean restaurants, you need to order two plates of BBQ if you want to BBQ at the table. We chose kalbi (marinated ribs) and bulgogi (marinated beef). It was absolutely succulent!! Both my friend and I find it is the best Korean BBQ we have tasted in Montreal so far. Trust me, I have been addicted to Korean BBQ since the beginning of Summer, so I have tried quite a few restaurants! Chez Hwang is really the best for BBQ!!

Does this make you hungry? d=
Koreans eat BBQ with lettuce. They use vegetables to wrap the meat and a paste. Yummmmmmy!
A miso soup is included when you order the BBQ. Side dishes such as kimchi and other marinated veggies are offered. They are both not exceptionnal, but the kalbi and bulgogi will make you forget the bad soup and the so-so side dishes! hahaha

I highly highly recommend Chez Hwang for the Korean BBQ!
